In the heart of the Swedish mountains, Åre offers one of Scandinavia’s most versatile and captivating snowkite playgrounds. What makes this region truly unique is the combination of vast frozen lakes, open alpine valleys, and gentle mountain terrain, all shaped by consistent Nordic winds.

Firstly, Åresjön, the large frozen lake at the foot of the village, provides an exceptional advantage for riders of all levels. The surrounding mountains create a natural wind tunnel, giving the lake remarkably smooth and reliable wind conditions. With over 80 cm of solid ice during the season, beginners can learn safely, while experienced kiters enjoy endless space to cruise, carve, and explore without obstacles.

Secondly, Åre’s mountains open the door to an entirely different style of riding. Spots such as Rödkullen, Ullådalen, and Baksidan offer wide, treeless snowfields accessible by ski lifts or short touring approaches. These higher-altitude areas deliver a sense of freedom similar to Lapland’s open terrain, allowing you to glide from one slope to another, follow the wind through gentle bowls, and experience that iconic Scandinavian feeling of being alone in the white wilderness.

Just one hour away lies Storlien, a location that stands out for its simplicity and purity.
